Ruth has taught private voice and piano lessons for ten years. Her students have frequently been selected for All-State and Regional Honors Choirs and have successfully auditioned for high school and college-level select ensembles. While her students range in age from 4 to 64, she specializes in preparing advanced high school singers for college music auditions. Former students are now singing in choral ensembles at Wellesley College, Hartt School of Music, Miami University of Ohio, Hamilton College, Westminster Choir College, and Bucknell University.

In the studio, Ruth guides her students toward a healthy and efficient vocal technique, emphasizing breath, posture, alignment, and the elimination of tension. Each lesson begins with physical warmups, breathing practice and vocal exercises. Lessons includs work on note-reading skills and ear training. Repertoire selections cover a variety of styles, focusing mostly on the musical theater and classical genres. Advanced students receive coaching in IPA (international phonetic alphabet) and foreign language diction (French, Italian, German, and Latin.)

Along the way, Ruth helps her students develop confidence and stage presence, encouraging them to be expressive singers. She prepares singers for musical theater auditions, concert solos, and college music auditions, providing college counseling and recommendations for advanced singers. Her students have the opportunity to participate in master classes and studio recitals throughout the year.

Ruth is a skilled pianist, so students needn't pay for a lesson accompanist.
